  • Flight tracker apps, such as Flight Radar, reported that the flight-path of the first Loganair Aberdeen to Shetland flight today was the world’s second most-watched at the time. This was while the aircraft was in a holding pattern of ovals perfectly on top of one another for an hour or so, waiting for the fog to clear at Sumburgh, before giving up and returning to Aberdeen. The flight was joined by two other Loganair flights, both oil charters, which also went into perfect holding patterns before later landing.

  • Meanwhile Edinburgh Airport suspended flights to allow for repairs to a “small break up” on the runway.

  • The Whalsay ferry Hendra was withdrawn this morning, reducing the service to a single vessel on the Linga’s timetable, with bookings suspended. The Shetland Islands Council said that there was some damage to a piston of the starboard main engine.

  • The member of the Scottish parliament for the Highlands and Islands Emma Roddick welcomed the team from Ehlers-Danlos Support UK to the Scottish Parliament this week during an exhibition for members. Emma Roddick was diagnosed with hypermobility at a young age, only find out much later in life that there was a real, tangible explanation for her daily pain and other difficulties.

  • The Lerwick branch of the TSB is to close in early September to be replaced by a pop-up service three days a week. The TSB in Lerwick started life as the Aberdeen Savings Bank and then in 1983 became the Trustee Savings Bank, before being amalgamated in 1995 with Lloyds to form Lloyds TSB. In 2013 the Lerwick Branch of Lloyds TSB was one of the six-hundred and thirty-two in the UK to be taken over by the Co-operative Bank.

  • The Environmental charity Wildfish has formally appealed against a change in UK government rules on what can be called “Scottish salmon”.

  • The harp and electronica duo FitkinWall will be presenting a new show called Harpland at Mareel later this month. The duo FitkinWall consists of Scottish harpist Ruth Wall and composer Graham Fitkin, with their surnames making up the name FitkinWall.
